It’s been 25 years since the first Jumanji film released in 1995 and did a pretty good business. In this post we are going to compare the commerical performance of all the films in the Jumanji franchise i.e. their total box office collection as compared to their budgets.
First of all, the first Jumanji released on December 15,1995 and was made on a budget of $65 million dollars.
The film became an international hit with mixed reviews but mostly positive. It earned a total of $262.8 million worldwide making it a very big film at that time.
The second film in the Jumanji series was released on 5 December, 2017 and is titled as ” Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle “.
This film is having Dwayne Johnson as Bravestone and Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse in the lead. It was made on a budget around $90 to $150 million and grossed a worldwide of $962.1 million on the box office making it the fifth biggest film of the year.
It obviously became a major hit for Sony Pictures to continue the franchise. The reviews were mostly positive because of the humour and a great adventure.
The third film named “Jumanji : The Next Level ” was released on December 13, 2019 and grossed around $796.6 million worldwide on a budget of $132 million. This film also was praised for adding more to the game but criticized for lack of importance to the antagonist and a weak climax.
Overall, all the three films in the Jumanji franchise proved to be a massive hit for Sony to continue producing more and more films in the series. Till then, we are sure we can see an upcoming Jumanji film in the next two years or so.
